Geocaching with GPS: What is geocaching and how can you use this activity in your classrooms? Introduce your students to the sport of geocaching through engaging academic lessons. Hands-on workshop will demonstrate their use.  (Garmin eTrex GPS units available for loan.) April 27th, 4pm-7pm

Stock Market Challenge: Looking for something new, exciting and challenging to do with your students? Learn how to incorporate the online FREE stock market challenge into your curriculum. Teach math, history, economics, social studies and more through the use of this game. This workshop will provide you with the information on how to sign up and use the game. The Teacher Center is also sponsoring its own contest between schools in Orleans and Niagara counties. Classes with the highest score at the end of the contest will receive a pizza party! Contest runs from Feb 22nd-April 30th. January 20th, 4pm-6pm

Get “Clicking” in your Class!: Learn basic operations of the eInstruction classroom response system. This cool tool offers a powerful way to motivate & engage students while receiving instant feedback. (Classroom set of 32 available for loan.) March 8th, 4pm-7pm

Tips for Student Success on Regents Using TI Graphing Calculators: Learn proven test taking strategies for the TI-83/84 Plus graphing calculators and TI-Nspire handhelds. Increase student confidence and raise scores on high stakes exams. Jan 11th, 4pm-6pm

"Gettin' Digi With It”—Microsoft PhotoStory Basics: Learn the basic elements of digital story telling using Photo Story 3, a free download from Microsoft. This simple and powerful program brings to life still photographs. Bring photos and create your first digi-book! Also be introduced to Moviemaker. March 10th, 4pm-7pm (3 hours)

Using Video in the Classroom: Learn the basics of MovieMaker, the FREE software available for all Windows users. Sample movies will be utilized in the first class to learn editing and then in the next class participants will bring their own footage to edit. Required for Flip Camera Case Study. Feb 24th and March 3rd, 4pm-7pm (6 hours)

My Teacher Pages: An intro to Classroom Web Pages:  Explore My Teacher Pages and begin to create your own classroom Web site. Learn how to upload pictures, videos and files; create classroom Blogs and many other features. Jan 26th and Feb 2nd, 5pm-8pm (6 hours) - light dinner served

Cool Tools for 21st Century Teaching and Learning: See how to use the engaging resources of BLOGS, wikis, podcasts and other tools to improve students’ communication skills and keep your class interested in reading/writing! March 24th, 4pm-7pm (3 hours)

Digital Professional Learning Networks NEW!: Technology is making it easier to “bridge the gaps” between teachers and making geographical location inconsequential to the ability to share, collaborate, organize, create and network. Feb 9th and 23rd, 4pm-7pm (6 hours)

SMART Board Coaching w/Mike Fisher NEW!: 4 individual sessions centering on the use of the SMART Board in your classroom. Take as many as you want. These are independent. All are 4pm-7pm

  •  SMART 1 (Basics): Learn how to use your SMARTboard as an extension of your mouse and some of the floating tools that are available. Bring your lesson plans! Part of this workshop will be lesson development around what you’ve learned. March 1st
  • SMART 2: Learn how to use SMART Notebook 10 software, specifically going over the available tools, inserting and using clipart, web addresses, & links to files and videos. Bring your lesson plans. March 15th
  • SMART 3 (Smart 2.0): In this session we will look at Web 2.0 tools that work really well with SMART Board integration. While we’ll be looking at tools to inspire and motivate, we’ll also explore easier ways to find relevant content to use with the Board. March 22nd
  • SMART 4 (Work Time!): This session will be a dedicated work session with guided instruction. Develop lessons around using the SMART Board, Notebook software & Web 2.0 Tools. March 29th
  • SMART 5 (Contination of SMART 1-4 in Fall): Create lessons in class with the help of an instructor. January 7th
  • SMART 6 (Contination of SMART 1-4 in Fall): Work on curriculum design incorporating SMART lessons with the help of an instructor. January 28th 

Promethean White Board Coaching w/Cassie Goldman NEW!:  2 individual sessions centering on the use of the Promethean ActivInspire in your classroom.  Essentials - March 9th, 4pm-7pm; Beyond Essentials - March 23rd, 4pm-7pm. Both are at Niagara Academy, B-9.

Adobe Photoshop w/Lynn Bewley:  5 sessions for 3-hour each at Wilson HS.  Participants will be combining multiple images into one collage using Photoshop. Participants need to bring in images, either on a CD, memory card, camera, high quality prints (these will need to be scanned) or any combination of these.  Ideally the images will relate to one another somehow -- maybe photos from a vacation, maybe grandchildren, maybe family through the years, maybe gardens - any theme of their choice. Feb 23, 25, March 2, 4, 9 (15 hours); 4pm-7pm

iMovie w/Lynn Bewley:  5 sessions for 3-hour each at Wilson HS. Learn how to use iMovie and iDVD for practical and creative video editing purposes. Designed for the beginner, but can be adjusted. BRING footage on topic and camcorder. March 11, 16, 18, 23, 25 (15 hours); 4pm-7pm
